What's in the bag?
GCI Turf Type is a 3-way mixture of high-quality Turf Type Tall Fescue.
We became known for having “weed-free” grass seeds and the new ones are no different. All the new grass seed mixes/blends are 0% weed seed and 0% other crop.
How long does grass seed stay good?
About 2 years if kept dry.
We look for three basic things when choosing the varieties that go in our grass seed mixes/blends. It must be readily available to us, it must have an excellent history in the NTEP trials (National Turfgrass Evaluation Program), and it must be affordable.
FLAME: (Tall fescue) Increased rhizomes and spreading ability enables the quick establishment and ability to repair damaged turf on areas with traffic such as sports fields. Flame provides superior density, dark color, and fine leaf texture. In addition to being selected for its spreading ability, the parental clones used to develop Flame have improved crown density.
CORONADO: (Tall fescue) This variety was developed by Pure-Seed Testing, Inc. It is a dark green cultivar with excellent drought tolerance. Coronado TDH requires less water to stay green longer than other tall fescues under drought stress. Coronado TDH has good heat tolerance and resistance to brown patch, gray leaf spot, net blotch, stem rust, and crown rust.
SALTILLO: (Tall fescue) Developed by Pure-Seed Testing, Inc. It is a dark green cultivar with excellent summer turf performance. Saltillo was selected for salt tolerance and brown patch resistance. Saltillo has very good heat tolerance and resistance to brown patch, gray leaf spot, net blotch, stem rust, and crown rust.

There will be some cases where we replace one of the non-rhizomatous varieties with a different one that is comparable due to availability. Be aware that you may see the Falcon IV variety in the Spreader Elite blend from time to time.
FALCON IV: (Tall fescue) Falcon IV is a new and improved, heat and disease-resistant, tall fescue variety developed for superior turf quality across a wide area of adaptation. It is dark green in color, fine textured with excellent wear tolerance. Falcon IV exhibits a unique combination of traits including dense growth, improved turf quality, and resistance to brown patch. Falcon IV is endophyte-enhanced tall fescue.
When should you plant TTTF?
Fall is a great time to seed TTTF. Plant TTTF seed when soil temperatures are between 50° and 65°F. Your air temperature should be around 60° to 75°at this time. The fescue in TTTF seed will germinate anywhere from 4 - 10 days to germinate. Mid August - Mid October is a great time frame depending on where you live in the country and what your soil and air temperatures are. I only recommend springtime seeding when absolutely necessary.
How much seed to use?
Overseeding into an existing poor lawn: Six - eight (6-8) pounds per 1000 square feet.
Overseeding into an existing nice lawn: Three - six (3-6) pounds per 1000 square feet.
Seeding bare ground: Eight - ten (8 -10) pounds per 1000 square feet.
Germination...
The trick to seed germination is to KEEP THE SEED MOIST! Water multiple times a day, light and frequently every day to ensure the ground and seed stay moist. TTTF seed can take anywhere from 4 to 10 days to germinate depending on environmental conditions. Be patient...it will come up with time. Once you have germination you can slowly revert back to watering 1” per week...deep and infrequent. During hot, dry weather established TTTF may need as much as 1.5” - 2” of water per week.
**We cannot take returns of seed because we cannot resell seed that has left our possession as we do not know how it was cared for while out of our hands. (moisture, sunlight, humidity).
