What's in the bag?
GCI Turf Alpha Elite is a 3-way mixture of high-quality Bermuda Grass seed. These three varieties are very similar and will blend well together.

GCI Turf Alpha Elite is 0% weed seed and 0% other crop.|
How long does grass seed stay good? About 2 years if kept dry.
We look for three basic things when choosing the varieties that go in our grass seed mixes/blends. It must be readily available to us, it must have an excellent history in the NTEP trials (National Turfgrass Evaluation Program), and it must be affordable.
MONACO: A synthetic variety produced by the intercrossing of five clonal parent lines. All seed is from the Syn-1 generation which results in superior genetic integrity and seed quality year in and year out.
MAYA: Scored exceptionally well for excellent color, disease resistance, improved turf performance, and leaf texture.
BLACKJACK: This is a dense, dark green warm-season turf. This vigorous, fine-bladed cultivar adds color and density to any Bermudagrass. Blackjack has excellent cold tolerance.
High-quality Bermudagrass seed is not cheap like some common bermudagrasses. We use coated Bermuda grass seeds which help in the germination but also add to the cost. We could easily put together a mix or blend that would be the “best of the best”, but, the cost would also reflect that. We prefer to offer a very high-quality grass seed at an affordable price.
How much seed do you use?
Overseeding into an existing Bermuda lawn: One - two (1-2) pounds per 1000 square feet.
Seeding bare ground: Three-four (3-4) pounds per 1000 square feet.
When should you plant Bermuda grass?
Spring - Summer is a great time to seed bermudagrass. You definitely do not want to seed bermuda too early in the spring. Be sure that all chances of a late spring frost are gone. Plant bermuda seed when soil temperatures are consistently above 65° F. Your air temperature should be around 80° at this time. For late Summer planting, do not plant 90 days before the first expected frost. You will need plenty of time to germinate and grow your bermudagrass before the first fall frost. At that time your bermudagrass will go dormant for the winter.
Germination...
Bermudagrass seed requires a lot of water to get going. Water multiple times a day, every day to ensure the ground and seed stay moist. Bermuda seed can take anywhere from 14-30 days to germinate depending on environmental conditions.
I bet you are wondering why only 49.45% of the bag is actual grass seed and 50.55% is inert matter. This is simple and typical for bermuda seed. Bermuda grass seed is coated to help with germination. It is also dyed so you can identify and see it well. The combination of the coating and the dye make up 50% of the bag.
**We cannot take returns of seed because we cannot resell seed that has left our possession as we do not know how it was cared for while out of our hands. (moisture, sunlight, humidity).
